James Costello joined Freeport McMoRan as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) in 2020 and leads the company’s Cybersecurity team. In his role as CISO, James is responsible for cybersecurity on a global scale.

Prior to joining Freeport McMoRan, James was the CISO at WageWorks, the nation’s largest public Consumer Directed Benefits company, and at Salt River Project, one of the largest public utility companies in the United States. Earlier in his career, James specialized in Security Risk Management and Assessments with roles at Charles Schwab, Honeywell, Microsoft, and as a consultant.

He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri St. Louis, is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and a Veteran of the United States Navy.
