Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights activist, leader and scholar. He challenged individuals to look beyond themselves and to serve the “Beloved Community.” In recognition of his legacy, the University of Missouri-St. Louis established the Dr. King scholarship to recognize students who exemplify academic excellence and service to the community. Scholarship applications are due no later than Friday, December 1, 2023.

The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion invites you to apply for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship. The recipient of this award will receive $1,000 and be honored at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Observance on Monday, January 15, 2024, at the Touhill Performing Arts Center.

The criteria for the award includes:
• Currently enrolled undergraduate student (Note. Previous winners are ineligible).
• Demonstrated commitment to community service.
• Essay based on this year’s theme – Economic Justice.
• Essay winners are required to participate in the annual celebration.

The application deadline for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship is Friday, December 1, 2023.
