Interested in learning more about Eastern philosophy? The Philosophers’ Forum invites you to UMSL Professor, David Griesedieck’s presentation: “Why Study Eastern Philosophy?”. The talk will cover the broad strokes of Eastern philosophy, and delve into how it tackles similar issues facing Western philosophy.

About his talk, Professor Griesedieck writes:

Eastern philosophy (Indian, Chinese, Islamic) continues to be a rather peripheral topic for most students of philosophy. I believe that a great deal can be learned by looking at these traditions comparatively. One gains a new understanding of the problems that Plato and Aristotle were grappling with by considering how those in other traditions dealt (or failed to deal) with these problems. I specifically want to look at the idea of a transcendent world in Plato and compare this with ideas of transcendence in India and China.

We look forward to seeing you there.
