Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights activist, leader, and scholar. He was a firm believer committed to and trained in the philosophy and methods of nonviolent demonstrations. The “Beloved Community,” a community where all can thrive, was Dr. King's ultimate vision. In recognition of his legacy, the University of Missouri-St. Louis established the Dr. King scholarship to recognize students who exemplify academic excellence and service to the community.

Scholarship applications are due no later than Friday, November 1, 2024. The recipient will receive $1,000 and will be honored at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Observance on Monday, January 20, 2025.

The criteria for the award includes:
• Currently enrolled undergraduate student (Note. Previous winners are ineligible).
• Demonstrated commitment to community service.
• Essay based on this year’s theme – The Beloved Community
• Essay winners are required to participate in the annual celebration.
