Join the campus community to welcome all new first-generation students (students whose parents have not completed a four-year degree). You will meet and hear from other first-generation students, faculty and staff while being able to share your own story about your first-generation experience. Spaces are limited; be sure to RVSP !
Some students are not sure if they are a first generation student. UMSL defines a first-generation college student as a student whose parent(s)/guardian(s) have not received a four-year degree from within the United States. This includes students who may have:
Parent(s) or guardian(s) who attended and/or graduated from a trade school.
Parent(s) or guardian(s) who attended and/or graduated from a community college.
Sibling/s who attended and/or graduated from a four-year university.
